(More details and more images on this 9.7 BLOG POST & on this UPDATE 9.27 POST)
In July 2011 she was diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia. This is a disease which affects 1 out of 1 million children. Basically, her bone marrow stops making enough red & white blood cells & platelets for the body. The only way to combat this disease is to have a bone marrow transplant. Finding a match can sometimes be impossible, but luckily her brother (age 10) is a match! In September 2011, her brother / hero will help her fight this disease this with a bone marrow transplant.
Emma & her family need your thoughts & prayers as they have a very long road ahead of them. I know their financial obligations will be overwhelming. The transplant itself costs upward of $600,000. Although they have insurance, they will have many other expenses during this long journey. After the transplant, the family will be separated due to the long recovery period for Emma for up to 1 year. Andy (the father) will go back and forth to work in Beaumont, Mason (the brother) will have to go back to school and Cathy (the mom) and Emma will be housed very close to the Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston until Emma fully recovers. The stress of your child being sick along with the financial responsibility of keeping up two households as well as medical bills can be overwhelming
Well, myself & many others would like to help. Here are just a few ways that you can…

Ashley Cooper Kisslinger
So sweet that you are doing this for them! You did a wonderful job on the photoshoot and really getting to know Emma and her family. I’ll be keeping them in my thoughts. I’m a childhood cancer survivor, myself, so I know how hard illnesses like this can be on a family.
